You know what trend I really fuckin’ hate?

This whole new trend of labeling people by their races disguised as positivity. And I’m not talking about celebrating the accomplishments of someone despite racial discrimination. I’m taking about the posts that go ‘Look at this black girl who did a thing! And she’s black! Black is beautiful! No one will ever talk about this!’. The unnecessary comments on posts of beautiful women or successful people, ‘Black don’t crack. Glorious melanin! Black bitches getting shit done!’ and the incessant adding of political agendas to normal posts.

You see pictures of beautiful successful women and the comments are all about how that person is black. You see a man who has done something breaking in science and the comments are all about how he’s black and that black people can do things too and black lives matter, etc. etc. etc. People reblog post after post boiling down successful people to the fact that they’re black. Not that they’re smart, or beautiful, or talented, that they’re black. They aren’t beautiful because they have great complexion, or mesmerizing eyes, or beautiful hair, they’re beautiful because they’re black. That’s the only remarkable quality about them.

No one is even allowed to have any sort of accomplishment without it being some sort of political statement. No one talks about what makes them special. No one talks about the things that they’ve done. Everyone just marvels at the fact that they did that while being black. They were smart and black. Pretty and black. Successful even though they were black.

It’s not even defying stereotypes anymore, it’s feeding into them. It’s almost become a stereotype on its own. It’s saying ‘wow this person did something great despite not being white!’. It’s saying that being black is a handicap and celebrating anything black people do as extraordinary because they overcame this handicap instead of the fact that they did something genuinely amazing.

It’s not positivity. It’s not proving that racists and stereotypes are wrong. It’s not really even celebrating that person. It’s celebrating the fact that they did something that’ll prove you right. It’s loving other people because of your political agenda. Because they’re important to your opinion. Because they prove a point. Not because of any kindness of the heart. It’s not positivity and black people, or any race for that matter, are not to be your pawns. People are not to be appreciated because of what they do for you, but because of what they do for humanity and for what they do for themselves.

It’s annoying and I hate it

The word you’re looking for is: positive discrimination.

This is my new favorite hangout spot. I walked here from home with a cup of tea and my watercolor supplies. A floating dock out of the reach of sun or rain floats underneath the marina. And it has friends. 😍

“On Tuesday, Sanders launched into a broadside attack on the Walt Disney Co. during an Anaheim Convention Center rally filled with 1,500 supporters.

‘Anybody make a living wage working for Disney?’ Sanders asked. ‘It’s an example of what we’re talking about when we talk about a rigged economy.’

Sanders went on to claim that ‘Disney pays its workers wages that are so low that many of them are forced to live in motels because they cannot afford a decent place to live.’ He added, ‘People are asking is it right that at Disneyland you have a CEO making $46 million while they’re paying their workers starvation wages.’

Sanders also attacked Disney, which made a record $2.9 billion in the first quarter of this year, for sending jobs overseas.

Disney CEO Bob Iger erupted in frustration against Bernie Sanders’ attacks on Disney’s low wages and Iger’s sky-high salary, asking in a private Facebook post obtained by TheWrap:  'To Bernie Sanders: We created 11,000 new jobs at Disneyland in the past decade, and our company has created 18,000 in the US in the last five years. How many jobs have you created? What have you contributed to the US economy?’

A Disney spokesperson told TheWrap in a statement that, 'Mr. Sanders clearly doesn’t have his facts right. The Disneyland Resort generates more than $5.7 billion annually for the local economy, and as the area’s largest employer has added more than 11,000 jobs over the last decade, a 65% increase.  These numbers don’t take into account our $1 billion expansion to add a Star Wars-themed land, which will create thousands of additional jobs across multiple sectors.'”

The point Sanders is making is that your employess are underpaid not unemployed. You MADE jobs, you HIRED people. That doesn’t mean you’re paying them well.

“We created 11,000 new jobs at Disneyland in the past decade, and our company has created 18,000 in the US in the last five years.”

I work for an outsourcing company to Disney. You’d think we’d make more than Disneyland workers right? Nahhhh. We are paid around $6 per background. That is hours and hours of making detailed BGs that will be seen for a few seconds at most. Imagine making $6 a day.

Let’s say you can finish one BG a day. So you make $30 from Monday-Friday. That’s only $90 a month. That is LESS than $100 a month. We make LESS THAN THE MINIMUM WAGE in our outsourcing to Disney. One of the wealthiest company in the world.

I’m sure Bob Iger can afford to sacrifice clubbing in Ibiza with Oprah Winfrey in a yacht to make sure people who make him money aren’t living in motels.
